Black is the colour people buy when the pillowcase has to disappear. On a dark bed it reads as part of the bedding rather than as an accessory, which is why it is the one most often bought by people who were not sure they wanted a silk pillowcase at all.
The silk is the same on every colour we sell: 100 per cent mulberry, Grade 6A long fibre, woven to 22 momme. The colour is the only thing that changes.
The practical argument for black is make-up and hair product. Neither shows on it between washes the way it does on white, so a black case looks presentable for longer even though it needs washing just as often.

This case is 22 momme, which is the weight we settled on for pillowcases: 19 is fine but wears through sooner, and much heavier than 22 starts behaving like furnishing silk and loses the drape.

Satin is a weave and silk is a fibre, so a fabric can be one, the other, or both. This page is silk.
