About this product
Polyester satin, and we would rather say so.
100 per cent polyester woven in a satin weave, 51 cm by 76 cm, envelope closure, nine colours. It glides like silk, it washes like polyester, and it costs about a third of what our mulberry silk case does.
This is the satin pillowcase, not the silk one. It is 100 per cent polyester woven in a satin weave, which is where the glide and the sheen come from.
That distinction is the whole point of this page. Satin describes a weave and silk describes a fibre, so a satin can be either. Ours is polyester, it says so here, and it is priced accordingly.
What you get for the lower price is a case that goes in the machine, comes out wrinkle resistant and takes stains less readily than silk does. What you give up is breathability and the way silk ages.
It closes with an envelope end rather than a zip, so there is nothing beside your face that can catch hair.
51 cm by 76 cm, which fits a standard Irish pillow. Nine colours at one price.
The reason to own a satin pillowcase is friction. Cotton grips hair and skin and tugs every time you move; a satin weave lets both slide. Polyester satin does that just as well as silk does, and that is not a marketing line, it is what the weave is for.
Where the two part company is everything else. Silk is a protein fibre that breathes and holds very little moisture. Polyester is a synthetic that breathes less, which some people notice as sleeping warmer, and holds none, which is why it resists stains.
It is also far easier to live with. Cold machine wash on a gentle cycle, no special detergent, line dry or a low tumble. Our mulberry silk case wants hand washing and shade drying.
The envelope end is a genuine advantage rather than a cost saving. There is no zip beside your face, so there is nothing to catch long hair on.
If you want to compare, the Pure Silk Pillowcase page on this site is the 22 momme mulberry version. Read both and buy the one that fits how you actually do laundry.
Still deciding?
Not sure yet? That is fine.
You can change your mind. You have 15 days from purchase on any unused item in its original packaging. That sits on top of the 14 day right to cancel that Irish law gives you on anything bought online. On a cancellation you pay only the direct cost of sending the goods back.
If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2022 you are entitled to a repair or a replacement first, and to a price reduction or your money back where that does not put things right. We pay the return postage and nothing on this page limits any of it. Read the detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.
The low-lint, low-static surface attracts less fluff and helps resist build-up, keeping your sleep space looking fresh between wash days.
Can a Satin Silk Pillow Case improve next-day makeup application?
Yes, keeping hydration and skincare on your face overnight can lead to a smoother canvas by morning, making base products glide on more evenly.
Are Satin Silk Pillowcases kind to curls and coils?
Absolutely, the low-drag weave helps keep curl definition, reduces frizz, and protects fragile ends while you sleep.
Is a Satin Pillow Slip a thoughtful gift?
Indeed. It's a practical luxury used 7 nights a week, loved for its skin-friendly, hair-loving benefits and elegant lustre.
Does a Satin Silk Pillow Case freshen quickly between washes?
Yes, air for 10-15 minutes and light odours lift; a 2-3 minute steam revives the finish for that pristine feel.
Will a Satin Silk Pillowcase help with fine lines?
Satin's glide reduces sleep creases that can etch into lines over time. You wake looking smoother and more refreshed.
Do Satin Pillow Slips stay secure overnight?
Quality designs use reliable closures and neat tailoring to stay put, giving you glide for skin and hair without shifting.
Is a Satin Silk Pillow Case a smart year-round choice?
Absolutely, cool in summer, comfortable in cooler months. Satin adapts to shifting temps for four-season ease.
What does momme actually measure?
Weight, not thread count. Silk thread is too fine to count usefully, so it is weighed instead: momme is the weight in pounds of a 45 inch by 100 yard piece. Our pillowcases, eye mask, bonnet and baby mittens are 22 momme, the silk flat sheet is 19 momme and the women's mulberry pyjama set is 16 momme.
Can a Satin Pillow Slip extend a blow-dry?
Yes, reduced friction helps preserve shape and shine for longer, meaning fewer heat-styling sessions and healthier ends over time.
Does a Satin Silk Pillow Case look polished on the bed?
The subtle sheen adds a refined finish to your setup, reading luxe without fuss while delivering nightly comfort for skin and hair.
Are Satin Silk Pillowcases travel-friendly?
Definitely, satin folds slim, weighs only a few hundred grams, and shakes out in minutes. Pop one in your carry-on for consistent beauty sleep anywhere.
Will a Satin Pillow Slip wrinkle less than cotton?
Satin's tight weave resists hard creases. Most light lines fall out after hanging; a brief steam restores a crisp, hotel-fresh look.
Is a Satin Silk Pillow Case good for side sleepers?
Yes, the low-friction surface reduces compression lines on cheeks and helps prevent tugging at the hairline, supporting smoother mornings.
Do Satin Silk Pillowcases support a mindful night routine?
They do, the cool touch signals wind-down mode, helping you relax in minutes. Pair with tea or journalling for a calmer evening.
Can a Satin Pillow Slip help with static?
Yes, satin's smooth face and gentle conductivity reduce static build-up, so hair lays sleeker and layers don't cling.
Will a Satin Silk Pillow Case feel too slippery?
Quality charmeuse offers silky glide without slide-off drama, buttery, not greasy. It stays put while treating skin and hair kindly.
Are Satin Silk Pillowcases durable for daily use?
With simple care, high-quality satin keeps its shape and sheen for years. The tight weave resists heavy creasing; hang for 10-15 minutes and wrinkles drop.
Is a Satin Pillow Slip suitable for sensitive scalps?
Absolutely. The gentle glide reduces pulling on roots and soothes tender areas post-barber or colour, keeping the scalp more comfortable overnight.
Does a Satin Silk Pillow Case help retain hair moisture?
Yes, satin's low absorbency helps natural oils and leave-ins stay in your strands, supporting shine, softness, and healthier ends.
Will a Satin Silk Pillowcase reduce bedhead?
It does. The sleek surface helps hair glide, cutting friction that leads to kinks and matting. Expect smoother strands and faster mornings.
Is a Satin Pillow Slip easy to care for?
Yes, machine-wash cold (30 °C) on gentle with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, then air-dry. A quick steam refresh revives the lustre in minutes.
Does a Satin Silk Pillow Case help hot sleepers?
Definitely. The thermo-balancing nature and smooth weave assist with temperature control, discouraging overheating so you drift into deeper rest.
Is everything on this site actually silk?
No, and the page always says which. The mulberry silk range is 100 per cent silk. The satin range is polyester or a viscose blend woven in a satin weave, which gives a similar glide at a much lower price. Both are on the site on purpose and each product page states its own fabric.
Is a Satin Pillow Slip good for lash or brow extensions?
Yes, the slippery finish reduces drag, helping extensions last longer with fewer snags. Wake with a sleeker look and less shedding.
How much is delivery?
Free across Ireland on orders of €60 or more. Below that the method offered is Express Delivery at €25, which is also available above the threshold as a paid upgrade. Allow 5 to 7 days after a 24 to 48 hour handling time.
Will a Satin Silk Pillowcase absorb my skincare?
Less so. Satin is low-absorbency, helping moisturisers and overnight masks stay on your skin, not the pillow. You wake with more hydration and fewer product losses to fabric.
Is a Satin Pillow Slip cooler than cotton?
Yes, satin's glide and breathable feel help disperse heat and humidity, keeping you composed through warmer nights. The cool-to-touch hand promotes deeper, more restful sleep.
Does a Satin Silk Pillow Case help with frizzy hair?
Absolutely. The low-drag surface cuts snagging and split ends, so styles last longer and curls stay defined. Expect fewer tangles and an easier AM routine, beauty sleep that works while you do.
Do your prices include VAT?
Yes. Every price shown on this site includes VAT, so the figure on the product page is the figure you pay.
The complete guide
Satin or silk: which pillowcase is actually right for you
4 min readFlair Silk Company
They are not the same word
Satin is a weave. Silk is a fibre. A satin fabric can be woven from silk, polyester, viscose or nylon, so "satin" on a label tells you how it was made and nothing about what it is made of. This page is polyester. The Pure Silk Pillowcase page on this site is mulberry silk. Both say so.
What the two have in common
The reason anyone buys either is friction. Both surfaces let hair and skin slide instead of gripping, and on that measure a good polyester satin does the job. If reducing overnight drag is the whole reason you are here, this is the cheaper way to get it.
Where they differ
Silk breathes and holds very little moisture, so it feels cooler on a hot night and it is gentler on skin you have just put product on. Polyester breathes less and holds none, so it sleeps a touch warmer and shrugs off marks that would need treating on silk.
Laundry is the real deciding factor
This case goes in the machine on cold and comes out fine. The silk one wants a cold wash with an enzyme-free detergent, no dryer and shade drying. Be honest about which of those you will actually do every week, because a silk case washed badly lasts less time than a polyester one washed properly.
Envelope end, no zip
There is no zip on this case. On a pillowcase that is a genuine plus: nothing hard sits beside your face and there is nothing for long hair to catch on.
Washing it
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, on its own for the first wash. No bleach. Line dry or tumble on the lowest heat. It comes out close to wrinkle free, so it rarely needs ironing.
Tell us what you want it to do and how you do laundry, and we will tell you whether the silk or the satin is the better spend. Free delivery across Ireland on orders over €60.
Satin Silk Pillowcase sold by Flair Silk Company at silkpillowcase.irish. One pillowcase in 100 per cent POLYESTER woven in a satin weave, not silk, 51 cm by 76 cm, with an envelope closure rather than a zip, offered in nine colours at one price: black, blue, gold, lavender, light blue, pink, red, silver and white. It fits a standard Irish pillow and does not fit a king pillow. It is a different and cheaper product from the Pure Silk Pillowcase on the same site, which is 22 momme mulberry silk. Care is a cold machine wash on a gentle cycle, no bleach, line dry or low tumble. The satin weave reduces friction against hair and skin overnight in the same way silk does; polyester breathes less than silk and resists stains better. No medical, dermatological or anti-ageing outcome is claimed. The price shown is the price charged. Delivery is Ireland wide, free over EUR 90, otherwise Express Delivery at EUR 25. Returns within 15 days on an unused item in original packaging; the Consumer Rights Act 2022 guarantees apply separately.
